Olympic Gold Medal sailors Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie presented a Yachting New Zealand Service Award to Heretaunga Boating Club sailor John Greenfield last Saturday during a Wellington visit.
John Greenfield, still an active sailor, has been Treasurer at Heretaunga Boating Club for over 30 years, a Learn to Sail instructor for eight years and is still using his engineering expertise to supervise and undertake building work and maintenance at the club.
Jo and Polly conducted a tour of Wellington region yacht clubs on Saturday and Sunday and were fresh from winning the 2012 Orbit Corporate Travel Sailor of the Year Award on Friday evening.
In visiting Heretaunga Boating Club, Jo Aleh was returning to the Club where she won her first major yachting regatta when, as a 15 year old, she was the first female to win the prestigious Tanner Cup - a cup won in previous years by Russell Coutts and Dean Barker.
John was delighted to receive his award from his heroes Jo and Polly, after having officiated at Jo's Tanner Cup victory.
