ISAF has contacted us following a Yachting New Zealand announcement published on 10th December around the ISAF Youth World Championships of 2015. The dates they had previously confirmed with Yachting New Zealand were incorrect and the regatta is one year later than advised earlier.
ISAF has now confirmed the timing of the 2015 ISAF Youth World Championship Regatta highlighting a long gap of around 18 months between the 2014 and 2015 editions of the pinnacle international youth regatta.
The 2015 ISAF Youth World Championships will be held in Langkawi, Malaysia from the 27th of December 2015 to the 3rd of January 2016. This is one year later than stated in Yachting New Zealand’s 10 December announcement.
YNZ will change our selection process for the New Zealand team to attend the 2015 ISAF Youth World Championships due to the timing of the event. The selection policy for the 2015 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team will be announced in due course and it is expected to differ from current selection policy.
Ian Neely, Yachting New Zealand Talent Development Manager explains; “This change only has a positive effect on our programme. We were prepared for a challenging tight turnaround between regattas and now it’s easy to adapt. We have extra time available to prepare sailors.”
