Three more races were completed overnight on day two of the Four Star Pizza ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships for the young New Zealanders in Ireland.
Most of the NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team of under 19 year olds improved their overall standings as a result of completing the fifth race which allowed a discard of their worst score to date. Wind and weather conditions were even more tricky than yesterday, with gusts of up to 25kn and big shifts in direction.
Gemma Jones and Tomer Simhony seized their chance to win the final race today, and their two previous races were also top notch; a pair of fifth’s in the SL 16 Catamaran. They dropped the score from regatta opening race, leaving them with all results inside top 5 and an overall standing of fourth.
Both the Female 420 crew of Ellie Copeland and Erica Dawson (pictured above), and 29er crew of Alex Munro and Trent Rippey have improved their overall standing to seventh overall, as compared to yesterday where both ranked in the low teens. Andrew McKenzie was also able to drop his Black Flag penalty from yesterday, and carded some solid results in the top third of the boys Laser Radial fleet.
