Auckland Opti sailors heading south for the popular Interisland Regatta on in Picton in February can register interest now for truck transport for your boats.
Mark Shapland and Big Chill have generously arranged for truck transportation to be available for Opti sailors to attend the 2013 Interisland Regatta in Picton which is being held from Friday February 22 to Sunday February 24th.
Action step required by 9pm Sunday 30 November: Visit this site and register your interest in having your Opti transported to and from Picton using this offer. Spaces are limited and will be allocated strictly on a first registered, first served basis.
Based on the uptake, organisers will be able to confirm the final price by 5th December and will email only those who have registered. A deposit of $50 will need to be paid by 10 December with the balance to be paid by 1 February 2013.
The truck can take up to 68 Optimists. Foils, boom, sail, beach trailers and any other gear you wish to transport are to be packed into each boat.
Ideally each optimist will have a full set of covers to protect it during in transportation. If you don’t have covers please ensure your boat is suitably protected for transportation. The mast will be transported separately in the trailer and will need to be packaged up. You will also need to bring a set of tie downs to secure your optimist in the trailer.
All gear, including tie downs needs to be clearly marked with your sail number for identification when unpacking. Assuming we get good interest, the cost will be $125 per boat. If it is not full to capacity, the cost may be more but every endeavour will be made to keep the cost down. This is incredibly good value for money.
Load up will be at Wakatere Boating Club from 5pm -7pm on Sunday February 17th. Each Opti will need to be presented for packing as described above. Sailors and a parent will need to be in attendance at the time their Opti is presented for loading. Loading might be arranged in club order during this time.
The boats will be at Queen Charlotte Yacht Club by midday Thursday 21st February and stored safely for collection when you arrive in Picton. Optis will then be loaded into the truck immediately after racing concludes in Picton on Sunday 24 February. Optis will need to presented in the same manner, with sailors and parent in attendance.
Optis will be returned to Wakatere Boating Club by Monday 25th February from 5pm. We will update you on this time by email if it changes. Optis can be left in the compound at WBC for up to 24 hours if necessary; however, there will be no security in place.
All Optis must be individually insured or owners accept any and all risk of loss in regards to the loading and movements or timing of arrival of Optis.
This is a great opportunity to keep the cost of attending ranking regattas down. Many people consider Picton to be the best ranking regatta annually, so we would encourage all Opti Green or Open sailors to avail themselves of this opportunity.
