Yachting New Zealand is pleased to announce a new series of resources for clubs that offer of sailing opportunities for people of all abilities.
Designed for sailing clubs and their volunteer force, it’s hoped that the use of these documents will help open up the sport for people with disabilities in the club environment.
The first ten documents in this series are best practice guidelines on starting a programme, recruiting sailors with a disability, club accessibility, safety, coaching, disability awareness and more. All of these resources have stemmed from the IFDS Disabled Sailing Manual, with the kiwi spin and relevant content added by YNZ Committee for Sailors with a Disability and staff.
Over time, more resources will be added with the intention to be included in a club kit – part of the existing YNZ Club Manual.
These new documents are now available for download on the YNZ website Inclusion Resources page, and are supplementary to other disability specific resources to be found in other areas such as content on Paralympic Development, the modified YNZ Learn to Sail syllabus and Coach Training.
Keep in mind that every sailing club that offers programmes for sailors with a disability will be different; there is no one size fits all approach!
