The New Zealand Hansa Class Association is seeking expressions of Interest from Yacht Clubs / Sailability groups to host the 2018 NZ Hansa Class Association Nationals.
The NZ Hansa Class Association (NZHCA) was established in 2009. The main objective of the Association is to benefit the community by encouraging and fostering the enjoyment of the competitive, recreational and social aspects of sailing. Although the fleet is largely made up of sailors with a disability the Hansa Class is an open class and was designed with the intention of integrating both disabled and non-disabled sailors.
There are a total of 4 Hansa Classes the 2.3, 303, Liberty and the SKUD 18. There are not large numbers of the 2.3 or SKUD in NZ so the Nationals are generally run for the Liberty (one person), 303 one person and 303 two person. If the host could accommodate the SKUD 18’s we would consider including them.
Previous Nationals have been held in Auckland, Napier, Waitara and Wellington with the 2017 Nationals being held in Taupo. To save on resources the Nationals are often run in conjunction with an existing regatta.
The only additional equipment required to cater for sailors with disabilities is a C Crane (hoist) to get those sailors that need it in and out of their boats. C Crane stands can be temporarily fixed to most floating pontoons, fixed wharfs etc. and will be supplied by the association. Sailors generally come with coaches/helpers to help with getting them on and off the water and provide on water support, however additional volunteers and a couple of extra RIB’s would be helpful. We would also require a wheelchair accessible toilet (an accessible port-a-loo can be used) and accessible facilities for social events, briefings etc.
The NZHCA will work closely with the host club/group to ensure the regatta is a success.
