“The theme for this year's regatta - Compete with Integrity - ties in with values important to Sir Peter and supports the Yachting New Zealand Ethical Guidelines for Sailors,” explains Doctor Mark Orams.
“We had a visit from Sir Peter's winning Whitbread entry Steinlager 2, which has been beautifully restored by the New Zealand Sailing Trust. Many sailors and their families were able to have a look onboard on Sunday when she was anchored off Waiake beach,” continues Orams.
“There was an amazing and emotional ovation for Dean Barker when he was introduced at the prize-giving showing the respect and love the New Zealand sailing community has for him - because of the gracious way he handled himself earlier this year in San Francisco.”
Prizes were awarded by Dean Barker and Peter Burling (winner in 2005 of the Sir Peter Blake Memorial Trophy).
Jackson Keon (Murrays Bay Sailing Club) but from Sandspit is the winner of the 2013 Sir Peter Blake Memorial Trophy for the most outstanding performance from a youth sailor at the regatta. Winning the 30 boat P Class fleet with a score of (6), 1, 1, 1, 1, 1.
