20 year old Harry Price representing the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia with his crew of Ben Robinson, Cameron Gundy and Murray Jones have won the Nespresso Youth International Match Racing Championships.
Price beat local George Brasell three races to one in the first to win three final series.
The racing was extremely close between the pair with penalties, luffing, tacking and gybing duels…the works!
Ironically the two had met last November at Price’s home club for the Musto Youth International where the results were reversed with Brasell taking the win and Price second. So in his prizegiving speech Price said he was “pleased to get one back”!
In the Petit Final Sam Mackay representing the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club won the first race by 10 seconds over Dylan Wichman. Wichman then found his form and beat Mackay in the next two races to take 3rd place overall in the series.
Race Officer Gerald Flynn was pleased to get the full complement of races in and thanked the competitors for all their help with completing boat change overs so quickly so that racing could continue.
Coach of the Youth Training Programme, Guy Pilkington, commented “It was great to see so many familiar faces back again. The standard of racing was exceptional and all the teams are to be commended on their efforts.”
