The 3.7 Class Association have an unprecedented demand for second hand boats and they’ve asked for our help to spread the word. Their goal is to get as many 3.7s out on the water and racing as possible, and maybe you can help?
Chris Mitchell from the 3.7 Class Association says, “We know for sure that there are a dozen good boats that have been purchased in the last decade that have just disappeared never to be seen again on a race course. In all probability they aren’t at yacht clubs either, but somebody must know something.
“The Class had a blinder at the last Nationals and any boats that were for sale have been purchased. I’ve counted 17 boats that have changed hands recently, add to that 23 at the National contest and it will be interesting to see the number of entries at the next contest.
“Currently the class website doesn’t have any boats for sale and we are backed up with nine people who have registered some interest in purchasing a boat who we will advise as soon as we can find some boat(s). Trademe has gone very quiet too.”
If anyone knows someone with a boat in storage, the 3.7 Class Association is keen to assist in getting it back on the water.
Mitchell says, “If the owner doesn’t want to sell it, we might be able to work out a lease - whatever it takes. We are keen to unearth some of those boats we know are out there.
“There are people with all sorts of budgets and we’re not just looking for boats capable of getting on the podium.”
