Sport NZ has just released a new resource called the Good Practice Principles for the Provision of Sport and Recreation for Young People. Anyone delivering, working-in, or planning sport programmes that involve young people will find this useful.
The principles promote a child-centered and ethical approach to providing sport and recreation experiences for young people. They are based on good practice and a range of research. The impact we want is more opportunities for children and young people to enjoy quality sport experiences.
The 10 principles are also supported by 10 case studies, which provide good practice examples of the principles in action.
In short, the Good Practice Principles help by:
- guiding the development of an organisation’s policy for children and young people in sport;
- providing a checklist for consideration when developing or reviewing sport programmes;
- developing a consistent approach to children and young people’s sport; and
- addressing often-asked questions about children’s sport.
