The Howick Sailing Club narrowly won the East Auckland inter-club regatta trophy when the event was sailed at the Glendowie Boating Club last weekend.
The four eastern clubs - Maraetai Sailing Club, Howick Sailing Club, Bucklands Beach Yacht Club and Glendowie Boating Club - were treated to a lovely 8-10 knot north-easterly breeze which produced some great sailing.
The initiative was introduced to build the fleet sizes in all four clubs and proved a success given there were 26 entries in the Optitmist green fleet.
The sailors from Maraetai, Bucklands Beach and Howick brought their sailors over from Bucklands Beach in Ribs for the briefing, shot back to launch their boats for three quick races. The three clubs sailed their boats back after racing, hopped in the Ribs and came back to Glendowie for prizegiving.
Howick narrowly won the Ivan Raos Memorial trophy from Glendowie, with Maraetai and Buckland Beach tied on points.
