French Bay Yacht Club recently held its Open Day on Saturday the 31st October. They seem to get it right at French Bay with a fine day and fresh south westerly breeze.
The club had also organised the Pyrenees French Delicatessen to do coffee, crepes and pastries, which all went down well with prospective members.
The club had a variety of craft on the water including 3.7, Starling, Optis, a Tasar, a Jollyboat, several Topazs, and Popeye (a John Wellsford design) well suited to introducing young families to sailing, plus support RIBs.
Kim Admore, Yachting New Zealand Regional Support Officer says, “I estimate that the club put close to 100 people on the water for a taste of sailing. All boats were skippered by competent sailors to ensure the prospective new club members had a great experience.”
New Lynn Sea Scouts were also part of the day, camped on the beach to give kids kayak experience.
This year FBYC did a lot of work promoting the event around local schools using flyers, promoting the event on Facebook, and with new event signage placed around West Auckland. Plus they had flyers printed up for the day showing what the club offers junior and adult sailors
The club has also set up a fantastic new website where people can book courses online. Go check it out at www.frenchbay.org.nz
