At the end of 2012 FMJ have made their intentions clear on the up and coming season, putting a strong case forward for a World Match Racing Tour Card in 2013 and cementing their spot as New Zealand's number 1 team, ranking as top kiwi's in the latest ranking release! In the three events in which FMJ competed on the world tour they scored in two of them. The first event was the Korea Match Cup where the team came 6th. FMJ then went onto Match Race France where they were runners up to world number one Ian Williams and GAC Pindar. After only competing in three out of the eight events FMJ ended up 10th on the world tour for 2012.
FMJ have progressed up the match racing rankings from 19th at the start of the year to 5th in the world in the latest ranking release and number 1 in New Zealand! The last regatta of the year for FMJ was the New Zealand Match Racing Nationals. The team wanted to show that they were the number 1 kiwi team and achieved this by dominating the regatta only losing 3 races and defeating Gavin Brady in the final! Not only did FMJ win the Match Racing Nationals, they got the double, winning the fleet racing nationals earlier in the year to take the National titles in each of the disciplines!
The latest news for FMJ Racing is that they have secured a entry into the Red Bull Youth Americas Cup Trials held in San Francisco in early February. The entry is the only entry for New Zealand and the team will be working hard to make it through to the Youth Americas Cup In September! This is great news for the team to finish off the best season yet! The team is working hard in the gym and sailing two A Class cats and a F18 to help get up to speed with racing multihulls. The trials will be raced in the AC 45's which have been used in all of the World Series events!
