A father and son will go head-to-head when the 2018 Solo Tasman Yacht Challenge from New Plymouth to Mooloolaba gets underway on Easter Sunday.
Malcolm Dickson will be racing against his son on Sauru.
Hamish and Malcolm Dickson are among eight entries for the race - four Australian and four New Zealand sailors - and Graeme Francis of New Plymouth is the only local entry having completed the race in 1986.
This will be the 13th sailing of the event since the first race in 1970.
The New Plymouth Yacht Club will be running the race, which typically attracts hundreds of people on the breakwater to watch the start.
