With the sailing season well and truly underway, it is time to remind sailing and boating clubs around New Zealand of an exciting event. Following on from two highly successful Volvo National Sailing and Boating Days in 2014 and 2015, this season it is back and bigger than ever…Yachting New Zealand’s Volvo Sailing and Boating Week 2016!
Volvo Sailing and Boating Week is an opportunity for New Zealanders to celebrate sailing and boating, to shine the media spotlight on club level sailing and boating activities and to open club doors to the public, encouraging the community to experience the fun and excitement of the sailing and boating environment!
The week is about raising the public awareness of sailing and boating clubs nationally, giving a wider audience a chance to get into clubs and out on the water to discover what the club has to offer them and their families. It is an opportunity to achieve local and national exposure for your club, as Yachting New Zealand will facilitate nationwide media opportunities for clubs taking part and provide resources to promote individual club activities.
Running from 13th - 21st February 2016, Volvo Sailing and Boating Week provides an opportunity for clubs to hold one (or more) dedicated open day over this nine day period, enabling clubs to pick a day that best suits them and their local surroundings. This will allow all clubs to be involved regardless of tides or fixed club schedule.
In previous years, activities on the day have included Try Sailing!, learn to sail courses, club racing, regional and national championships, harbour cruises and BBQs, with many clubs offering the possibility for members of the public to get out on the water and experience the thrill of sailing and boating. If there is already something on the club calendar, why not take it up a notch by making it a part of Volvo Sailing and Boating Week!
What your club chooses to do is up to you! Register your club, tell us your plan and we will tell the country!
Club registration is opening soon, so start thinking about what your club could do. Whether it’s enticing new members, reinvigorating existing or former members’ interest or showcasing our sport to the public… get on board with Volvo National Sailing and Boating Day by making it whatever you want to!
