Easing restrictions will impact club activity

Issue date

Yachting New Zealand will circulate guidance for clubs on the latest changes to the Covid Protection Framework once we receive more information from Sport New Zealand on what it all means for yachting and boating clubs.

The Government earlier today announced a raft of changes to the red setting of the CPF, including changes to vaccine mandates, gathering sizes and scanning requirements, which will impact the way clubs operate. Most changes come into effect at 11.59pm on Friday.

The main changes are:

  • Vaccine passes will no longer be required to be used from 11.59pm on April 4, except for health and disability, aged care, corrections and border workforces. Some businesses, events or venues may still choose to use vaccine passes but it is not a requirement.
  • The limit on outdoor gatherings will be scrapped. Outdoor concerts, sports and other outdoor events will be able to resume under the red setting from this weekend.
  • The number of people allowed to gather inside increases from 100 to 200, but seating and separation rules remain.
  • You do not need to wear a face mask outdoors. Face masks will still be required in most indoor settings.
  • There is no requirement to scan in or for a business to display a QR code poster or have mandatory record keeping.

The red light setting that currently applies to New Zealand will be reviewed again on April 4, and regularly after that point.

The orange settings remain broadly the same with no gathering limits but extra guidance on holding safe events, and a new requirement for workers to wear masks at indoor events.

At all levels, the testing and isolation requirements remain as they are now, meaning Covid cases and their household contacts need to isolate for seven days.
