Sense the Wind is a journey into the sport of blind sailing, following blind sailor, Nancy, and three colleagues as they train and compete for the USA Nationals and Blind Sailing World Championships. Nancy and Phil must rely on their skills to trim the sails and be sure-footed crossing the deck. As skippers, Inky and Matt navigate with an acutely developed sensitivity to the wind, listening and reacting quickly to descriptive cues from sighted guides. They sail blind, with an image of the racecourse in their mind’s eyes, ever alert to a suddenly swinging boom or boat collisions on open water.

Only in recent years have blind and physically disabled sailors broken barriers to meet together at the same starting line. Competition is fierce in fleet racing. Even amongst the blind sailors there is concern about team advantages with some less impaired skippers and with elite tactician
Producer Christine Knowles gives an update on the project in April 2013:
"Though principal photography has been completed, I will be following 2 of our documentary featured impaired sailors at the Worlds in Japan. Both in 2010 and 2012 visiting international sailors, including from NZ, were also filmed at a blind invitational regatta in SF and the camaraderie between cultures was wonderful to observe. Canadian teams have also competed for their practice, at some Blind Nationals in Newport. I want to highlight blind and adaptive sailing in the film as an international sport and show these sailors from across the globe as they compete and reconnect with this unique community."
