MEDEMBLIK, 25th May – The 31st edition of the Delta Lloyd Regatta is very popular in the sailingworld. Over 700 boats will be in Medemblik on the water from 26th to 30th May. Competitors from 74 different nationalities travelled to the Dutch town to compete the next five days in the ten Olympic and three Paralympic classes.
"The large number of competitors means that the Delta Lloyd Regatta is a big and good event in the sailing community. Apparently the need for such an international sailing event is there”, chairman Arjen Rahusen of the Organizing Committee told us at the press conference in Medemblik a day before the start of the races. ,"This edition is one of the biggest we’ve organised in the last ten years.’’
RS:X men (71 competitors), RS:X women (44), Laser (163), Laser Radial (90), 49er (59) and Nacra17 (45 boats) are popular classes in Medemblik. The Delta Lloyd Regatta is also a qualifying event for the World Cup in Weymouth in June, so the competition will be intense and strong.
The Delta Lloyd Regatta will also bring spectacle in the Paralympic classes. Sonar (12 boats), Skud 18 (18) and 2.4MR (32) will show nice races on the water of Medemblik. ,,We never had that number of competitors in the Paralympic classes”, tells a proud Rahusen.
