The submission period closes this Friday (9th of November) to have your say on the proposed 24 hectare farm in the Whangaroa Harbour.
It is important that boaties have their say.
Submissions don’t need to be long, just simply state your concerns with the application on the form provided by the Northland Regional Council. You can supply more information if you wish. Yachting New Zealand has sent in a submission which can be viewed on our website here. You can use this to help you put together your submission.
You will find the resource consent application and the submission form on the NRC website.
The area of the harbour where the farm will be located covers scallop beds, recreational fishing grounds and areas where boats shelter in windy conditions. It will be difficult to get past the farm in high winds as boats will have to be virtually on the rocks to get through the narrow passages and it will be a nightmare at night if changing winds dictate a change of anchorage at 2 am in the morning.
Please take time to read Yachting New Zealand’s submission and put in fill in one of your own.
