Coaches, officials and volunteers - learn where you want, when you want with Embark

Issue date

Yachting New Zealand are excited to launch Embark, our new online learning platform.

Embark allows people to learn new skills without the need to attend weekend and weeknight workshops; people can now learn at a time and place that suits them, at a pace that meets their increasingly busy life.

Our online courses are designed to make it easier for people to start learning new skills and to supplement our hands-on courses and seminars.

"From our perspective, it's a game-changer," Yachting New Zealand chief operating officer Andrew Clouston said. "We now have coaching and race official modules online so it's never been easier for anyone to be involved. It means people from all over New Zealand can start their learning in their own time and in their own learning environment.

"Anyone can start to learn the basics without the need to attend a weekend course with facilitators who may not even be in their own town. We will see this open the opportunity for thousands of people and, hopefully, translates into more people following the racing officials and coaching pathways."

There are currently courses available for aspiring coaches and race official volunteers, and in time will offer courses for club administrators (including health and safety management).

Coaching 101

This provides an overview of what makes a good coach: what qualities are good to have, what needs to be worked on, and understanding the different roles you might play as coach. This course also covers good behaviours a coach should display and a module on safety.

Start...Officiating!
