Yachting and boating clubs will soon need to review their structure and constitution with an impending change to rules for incorporated societies in New Zealand.
Most clubs are a registered incorporated society in New Zealand and follow the rules, regulations and compliance required.
The Incorporated Societies Bill will modernise and strengthen the Societies Act and was due to be passed into law in December 2021. This was delayed but is now scheduled to pass into law in the next month or so.
Clubs should review their structure and constitution regularly anyway as a matter of good club governance but it will be essential following the bill being passed.
Once this is done and Yachting New Zealand has reviewed recommended actions for yacht and boating clubs, your regional development manager will be available to assist clubs through the process.
Clubs will have approximately two-and-a-half years to review and implement changes.
