Andrew Clouston’s talents as a yachting administrator were identified early and that has continued with his appointment as Yachting New Zealand chief operating officer.
The 35-year-old started his new role on Monday, adding it to his existing role as participation and development manager.
Clouston first started with Yachting New Zealand in 2006 as the northern region’s first ever regional support officer. He took on the participation and development role the following year.
The latest appointment recognises Clouston’s skills and leadership potential and also helps address Yachting New Zealand’s needs as the organisation continues to evolve. Yachting New Zealand will have a new strategic plan out later this year and it is seen as an opportune time to reassess the skills of the people within the organisation and how the national body can deliver greater value.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge and the chance to add value to the wider organisation,” Clouston said. “I’m really passionate about the sport and I really love the club environment and what the sport can do for all people.
“I will still have a key focus on clubs and supporting participation and development.”
Clouston is also a handy sailor, having graduated from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’s famed youth training programme and he’s raced here and overseas in a variety of boats.
