From the Chief Executive: David’s Desk July 2015

Issue date

Dear members

Over recent months I have been able to get around New Zealand, to meet with many of you and discuss how we can grow our partnership as we work together to support and improve all aspects of sailing and boating.

After all, our driving goal at Yachting New Zealand is to help New Zealanders access, enjoy and succeed on the water for life.

I have to say thank you for the great feedback provided to me and Andrew Clouston, our Participation and Development Manager, while working around the country, on matters such as the new affiliation model and needs of member clubs.

It is through this feedback that the Yachting New Zealand Board of Directors has reviewed the levy to be applied to family membership. Under the new affiliation model a family membership will be taken as;

  • Two family members $44.00 plus GST
  • Three or more family members will pay 2.5 times the affiliation fee. Under the 2015-2016 fee this equates to $55.00 plus GST.

On another note it is very pleasing to see the on-going benefit to Clubs that have been working with Aon New Zealand to reduce overall Club insurance costs while also improving the quality and depth of cover. In addition Aon New Zealand and Yachting New Zealand have a new offering coming very soon to meet the insurance needs of dinghy sailors around country.

Another of Yachting New Zealand’s key partners, Volvo New Zealand, is looking forward to the launch of their new XC90 this month. All members of a Yachting New Zealand affiliated Club are entitled to a special discount on selected new models in the Volvo range and discounts range from 8-12%.

As we approach the end of the financial year and reflect, the last twelve months have been rewarding with improved communication with clubs, the trial of our new Yachting New Zealand Discount Card as well as new sponsorship and partner support from Aon New Zealand and Air New Zealand.

Improvements to our website yachtingnz.org.nz mean that racing keelboat owners can now apply, revalidate and pay for PHRF certificates on line. On-line enrolment for Yachting New Zealand’s coaching and race official training courses and seminars is another new addition streamlining the process for users.

Finally, if you are among the member clubs selected for our trial of the Yachting New Zealand discount card I encourage you to use your card and also to provide us your feedback later in the year.

Kind regards
David Abercrombie
