A number of changes will be made to Yachting New Zealand's NZCT Regional Support Officer (RSO) programme following a review towards the end of last year.
A shortfall in funding for the RSO programme prompted the Yachting New Zealand board to implement a review. As a result of the review we will be implementing some changes, the most significant of which is to reduce the number of regional support officers to four. The regions and support will comprise of the following:
- The north of the northern region (Kim Admore)
- The south of the northern region (currently recruiting for this position)
- Central region (Wayne Holdt)
- South Island (Ian Gardiner)
The RSOs will be in touch with their clubs shortly to discuss the best way in which to maintain club support and better understand their future needs. We encourage individual clubs to give this some thought prior to the RSO contacting you.
"Unfortunately, a reduction in funding especially from Community Trusts is something all sports are facing at present and yachting and boating is no different," Yachting New Zealand chief executive David Abercrombie said. "With fewer resources to run the programme, we will need to operate more efficiently and make better use of the communication tools available, like Skype, webinars, Messenger and effective email communication. And of course, the RSOs are only a phone call away.
"We need to be more focused during face-to-face visits and, with greater forward planning, we can ensure each club receives maximum value from their RSO and Yachting New Zealand.
"What came through clearly during the review process was how much value the regional support officers add to the clubs, and I want to assure you we are fully committed to continuing the programme."
