Golden Bay put on a spectacular day with blue skies, sunshine, and a beautiful sea breeze to welcome in members of the public to Pohara Boating Club as part of the 2017 Volvo Sailing and Boating Week.
The club was buzzing with a carnival atmosphere on 29 January with food stalls, local produce, and fun events to ensure the young ones were entertained, including a treasure hunt in optimist dinghies, a fishing contest, and the chance to try out a Waka.
Over 50 locals turned up to experience the club and see what was involved in a sailing and boating club.
Young club members had optimists on the water taking youngsters out for a sail, and the club’s Paper Tiger was also on hand for people wanting to try out sailing with a bit more excitement on the water.
The clubs kitchen and bar was open in the evening, with over 50 meals served to a mixture of club members and the public.
A great day was had by all and the event lifted the clubs profile in the community.
Volvo Sailing and Boating Week is an opportunity for New Zealanders to celebrate sailing and boating, to shine the spotlight on club level sailing and boating activities and to open club doors to the public, encouraging the community to experience the fun and excitement of the sailing and boating environment.
The aim of the week is to get as many people down to their local club and out on the water as possible.
