Last night was the shortest night of the year...& with that milestone met, summer is officially coming. Diarise 26-29 January for the 2016 Bay of Islands Sailing Week. We look forward to seeing you there.
Yes – unfortunately there were some errors in the series results announced at Prize Giving 2015. An incompatibility between a Windows update and our results programme meant that the series results did not update properly. We apologise for this and confirm we have put in place measures to prevent this happening again. At the end of this Regatta Ramblings we give the final series results. Congratulations to the winners.
Our AGM was held last month and John Grant (from the Russell Boating Club) is now the Chairman of Bay of Islands Sailing Week. Ray Haslar remains as a committee member representing the Kerikeri Cruising Club and continues working with sponsors. Many thanks to Allen Jones for his past years on the committee, and to Manuela Gmuer-Hornell for her assistance in the media field. You will both be missed from the committee.
And, our sincere thanks to both Craig and Annette Jones for their years of voluntary service in the ‘Race Results’ Hut; they were always ‘head down’ for the three full days of racing. We hope to see both of you in 2016, perhaps in another voluntary role?
The NOR 2016 will be on line in August 2015; how about a Multi-Hull division in Island Racing? And the Farr 1020 division is back in for 2016.
It has always been the aim of the Bay of Islands Sailing Week Committee to produce an international regatta. To attract entries from overseas we need to use an international handicap system. In the South Pacific – that is IRC. International guests need to be confident that they are coming to a regatta that has acceptable international handicap systems.
So we are announcing some changes to A Division for 2016. The South Pacific 52 championship will be run on IRC. We will continue offering the popular PHRF system in A Division but will be dropping General Handicap. We will also introduce a ‘Line Honours’ trophy. This is for A Division only. This new format has something in it for everyone.
Here are three good reasons to join us at the Bay Regatta 2016:
- The greatest ‘away regatta’
- Awesome sailing
- The best social ‘Beer tent’
The Millennium Cup will again be a part of the Bay of Islands Sailing Week. It’s pretty spectacular watching the colourful display of sails in the bay, all shapes and sizes – sailboats just slicing through the water. It’s magic…..
