Two qualifying regattas will be held for the three classes - windsurfing, kiteboarding and multihulls - when sailors can qualify a spot for New Zealand at the Youth Olympics to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from October 1-12, 2018. The event is for sailors aged 14-18.

"This is a good opportunity for kids in this age group to take part in a major world event," Yachting New Zealand youth co-ordinator Stuart Thomas said.

At the Oceania qualifiers, there will be two places available for Oceania countries in each of the men’s and women’s windsurfer, one in each of the men’s and women’s kiteboarding and one mixed multihull spot.

A further six spots will be available for the best-placed countries at the windsurfing world championships, four for kiteboarding and seven mixed multihull spots.
