The 2016 Youth Sailing World Championships is coming to New Zealand this December and organizers are calling for volunteers – this is your chance to be part of the action.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to be involved in this very prestigious world sailing event!
Peter Dawson is heading up the 2016 Youth Sailing World Championships organising team and he explains what volunteers will be tasked with.
“On the water we are running three-course areas and require mark layers, safety boat crew, and personnel to assist on the signal boats, start pin and finish boats,” says Dawson. “On land there is a host of other tasks to be done including accreditation, hosting, meet and greet, results, beach duties, parking, driver, interpreters, social media gurus and more. Unfortunately, the budget does not run to any assistance with transport or accommodation but you will get the tee shirt, lunch and a beer!”
This is an event to showcase New Zealand hospitality and expertise to the world and the organizing team sees this as an opportunity for the wider sailing and boating community to gain knowledge about how high-level events are conducted and they hope that learning to be spread nationwide.

Wednesday 14 December 2016: Venue open for registration and accreditation
Thursday 15 December 2016: Opening ceremony and Practice Race
Friday 16 December to Tuesday 20 December inclusive: Racing dates
Tuesday 20 December: Prize giving and closing ceremony

While it would be nice to have everyone involved for the whole regatta we know that might not be possible. Please indicate the days you would be available and the type of tasks that you would like to perform.
This is a no smoking event in the venue, its environs and on the water. If you cannot abide by this requirement please do not volunteer to be involved.
If these dates do not work for you there is another big regatta next year. The World Masters Games Sailing event is April 21 to April 30 and volunteers are needed.
