Feast for Free compliments of North Sails & Southern Spars

On Thursday night mid-regatta we’ll have free food available in the regatta tent at Opua, courtesy of Southern Spars and North Sails. Make sure you come along for a choice of delicious hand-size burgers or hotdogs – yum, and thanks to both Southern Spars and North Sails.

Double the rum order - the Navy are coming!

The Royal New Zealand Navy have signalled their intention to join the regatta again – but this year they’ll be racing their three Chico 40’s in an nail-biting international competition.

The NZ Navy will be pitting their sailors against the Australian Navy and British Navy. Don’t forget to salute them as they cross the bay - and we’ll have to double the Mt Gay Rum order to be sure we don’t run out!

Foiling cats lift BOISW into a new era

This year’s racing is likely to be even more spectacular than ever before, with up to five state-of-the-art GC32 foiling cats set to make an appearance.

The NZ Multihull Yacht Club has announced they’re planning to bring four of these super-fast Americas Cup-style multihulls to the regatta. Together with local sailor Sharon Ferris’s new import, we could be watching some very exciting high-speed sailing action at this year’s BOISW.

Reminder – clean bottoms only please

In case you missed the note in last month’s Regatta Ramblings, here’s a second reminder about arriving to race in the Bay of Islands with a clean bottom.
