The America’s Cup is up and running again with its normal media hype and high profile so it’s timely that Gulf Harbour Yacht Club takes a moment with hundreds of other clubs the world over to remember one of the greats who gave his life to the Cup and the sport of sailing.
Gulf Harbour Yacht Club (GHYC) will be a part of the largest yacht race ever held as hundreds of clubs simultaneously race the Bart’s Bash (www.bartsbash.co.uk) and attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the biggest number of boats and sailors in history to be racing at one time.
The five Pound Sterling (NZ$12) entry fee will be paid to the Andrew Simpson Foundation to benefit sailing on a number of different levels and create a well-deserved legacy for Olympic medallist and America’s Cup sailor ‘Bart’, Andrew Simpson.
GHYC will manage two races on Sunday 21st of September for Keel Boats and Invited Dinghy Classes.
The Sunday is planned to be a fantastic, fun celebration of sailing with the races scheduled for starts at 1000hrs to practice and the Record Breaker set to start at 1400.
Everybody can come and is welcome. Sailors bring your friends and families. The club will be open with the fire roaring, the kitchen cooking snacks and lunches, the coffee pot brewing, the bar open, the TV on and the day’s racing right outside the window.
There’ll be Flying Fifteens, Jollyboats, Zephyrs and dinghies from the Manly Sailing Club and Wentworth College Sailing Club too.
Be sure not to miss it, contact GHYC through www.ghyc.co.nz
