During the two weeks of the recent school holidays, Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club Sailing Academy again ran the ever popular youth match racing clinics on the Elliot 6s on Wellington Harbour.
Crews came from New Plymouth, Napier and as far south as Christchurch, along with some familiar faces that have been attending annually.
“What better way to utilize the school holidays in the winter than to go match racing catch up with your mates and enjoy Wellington,” says Regional Support Officer Ian Gardiner.
Sailors participated in a combination of skills sessions in the Elliot 6s, learning to develop their match racing skills, then finishing up with some regatta racing and the excitement involved
Windy Wellington lived up to its name and a southerly hit on the first week clinic only allowing for two days of sailing. The second week was blessed with great sailing conditions with four days of 8 to 20 knot winds.
