Another stage in Mt Pleasant's recovery from Christchurch earthquakes

Issue date

The Mt Pleasant Yacht Club opened their new boat shed, storage and changing facility last weekend which coincided nicely with the club's opening day.

More than 130 members and interested parties braved the unseasonable eight-degree Christchurch day on Saturday to witness the official opening by the Member of Parliament Ruth Dyson.

The previous building was damaged beyond repair during the Christchurch earthquake and a great deal of ground work went into the foundations, given the amount of liquefaction that affected the surrounding area.

The club came through the challenging earthquake and rebuilding phase stronger and with a passionate base of sailors and the direction and foresight within the club has seen an expanding senior and Laser fleet.

The boatshed opening was followed by the club's season opening day, with president Graeme Mander cutting the ribbon and declaring the season open.
