YNZ has issued an amendment to the YNZ Safety Regulations of Sailing 2013-2016. They are as follows:

Addition to the Fire Fighting information:
The minimum allowable size for a foam fire extinguisher is 9 litres.
Note: This addition is to provide guidance to skippers and inspectors. A 9 litre foam extinguisher is considered to be equivalent to a 2.5kg powder extinguisher in its effectiveness. For this reason foam extinguisher less than 9.0 litres will not be allowed.

18.7 (d) Two red hand flares (X for Cat 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5)
Add paragraph: ODEO laser flares may be used in addition to red hand flares.
Note: This change removes the ability to replace red hand flares with laser flares; this is due to laser flares not yet having SOLAS approval.
