Predictable, consistent and fair race management is the theme for this year’s race management seminars which kicked off this month.
Ponsonby Cruising Club hosted 22 attendees, who spent the weekend learning, sharing and discussing race management protocols and best practice. It was a diverse group, from experienced national race officers to those new to this side of racing, which allowed for everyone to learn off each other and hear about how things happen at different clubs.
Race management seminars are a two-day, classroom-based course targeted at anyone interested in learning or improving the knowledge and skills required to undertake any of the on-the-water duties to run round-the-buoys-type yacht races. Yachting New Zealand offer these seminars free to any affiliated club member to continue to train and upskill race officers in order to maintain high standards of racing and race officiating for our sailors.
The seminars are facilitated by John and Linda Parrish, who are vastly experienced at the international race management level and provide interesting insights, scenarios and stories from regattas like the Rio Olympics.
There are still spaces available in the remaining scheduled seminars
