Strong winds and squally showers in typical Spring fashion greeted the 58 sailors competing in the Yachting New Zealand Youth Trials at Gulf Harbour Yacht Club from 4th-8th October. A fantastic effort from Race officials saw the full complement of races completed for the 420 and laser Radial classes, while the RS:X8.5 and 29ers ended just a couple of races behind schedule. A big thanks goes to our Olympic and Aon Fast Track programme sailors who assisted the qualified Race Officials on the water to ensure the full schedule of races could be sailed.
The winners in each class:
- 29er Boys: Francesco Kayrouz and Oscar Gunn
- 29er Girls: Greta and Kate Stewart
- Laser Radial Boys: George Gautrey
- Laser Radial Girls: Olivia Christie
- 420 Boys: Josh Berry and Henry Haslett
- 420 Girls: Courtney and Brianna Reynolds-Smith
- RS:X8.5 Boys: Patrick Haybittle
These sailors have now been nominated for selection in the NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team to compete in the Youth Sailing World Championships 14th-20th December at Torbay Sailing Club.
A massive thanks to Gulf Harbour Yacht Club for hosting the event and Gulf Harbour Marina for all their support throughout.
