ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami got underway today where a 19-strong contingent of kiwi sailors are competing on Biscayne Bay in the second regatta of the 2016 ISAF Sailing World Cup series.
Racing was interrupted by light wind postponements, but all the kiwis completed at least one race to open their campaign in Miami today.
Andy Maloney was the stand-out performer on day one, the NZL Sailing Team Laser sailor taking 2nd place in his opening race and following that with a 10th to lie 4th overall in what is the largest of all the fleets in Miami.
Sam Meech is also in the top ten, with a 7th and a 10th in his two races the Tauranga Yacht & Powerboat Club representative is in 8th at the end of day one.
Competitors in the Olympic and Paralympic classes will have five days of fleet racing from Monday, January 25 to Friday, January 29. Medal Races across the 10 Olympic classes will bring the regatta to a close on Saturday, January 30 where medals will be awarded to the top three boats.
