The 2014 Youth Olympic Games has concluded for New Zealand’s three-strong sailing team competing in Nanjing, China.
New Zealand was represented in three of the four sailing events contested in Nanjing including both the girls and boys windsurfing and the boy’s one person dinghy.
16 year old Finn Croft (Manly Sailing Club and Takapuna Boating Club, Auckland) sailing in the Boy’s windsurfer class on the Techno 293 was the best placed of the kiwi team finishing 6th overall.
Alistair Gifford, 15 years old and from the Queen Charlotte Yacht Club in Picton, raced in the Boy’s Byte CII and finished the regatta in 10th place in the fleet of 30 sailors.
And 15 year old Tauranga windsurfer Coral Headey overcame a late hiccup in her preparation when her equipment was stolen, to persevere in Nanjing and sail away with 16th place in the girls Techno 293.
