The 2013 Yachting New Zealand Annual General Meeting will see changes to the YNZ Board of Directors including Rodger Kerr-Newell stepping into the role of President, and two new Board Directors.
Following the nomination received for the Yachting New Zealand President, Rodger Kerr-Newell will be deemed elected from the date of the Annual General Meeting.
A nomination received for the Yachting New Zealand Board, Greg Knowles means he will be deemed elected from the date of the Annual General Meeting. The AGM will also see the ratification of John Cobb, as an appointed Board Director.
Rodger Kerr-Newell
Rodger Kerr-Newell first joined the YNZ Board of Directors as an independent selected Director at the start of 2006 and has subsequently served seven years. During this time Rodger has made a strong contribution to the shape, direction and quality of the YNZ board particularly in the areas of governance, identifying challenges in the environmental and marine regulatory area and in the development of the strategic direction of the organisation.
Rodger’s strengths are in the areas of governance, finance, investment and his connection to and knowledge of central and local government. He has been a sailor of many boats from dinghies to keelers to powerboats over an extensive period of time as a competitor and for pleasure.
Greg Knowles
Greg Knowles is a senior partner at KPMG. In his role he interacts with senior business people and has advised on some of the largest mergers and acquisitions transactions in New Zealand. Greg has a governance position on the Board of KPMG New Zealand. Greg was a Director of Ski Racing New Zealand Inc. and actively worked over an 18 month period to successfully transfer the management of alpine skiing to Snow Sports New Zealand Inc.
With Murray Jones, Greg finished 5th in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and 4th in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, in Flying Dutchman class sailing. They also placed second in the 1988 and 1992 World Championships.
John Cobb
A 20 year career in Investment Banking and Wealth Management combined with his sailing experience brings both a commercial and practical contribution to the Yachting NZ Board. John has a particular interest in youth and elite sailing.
John Cobb started sailing at Wakatere Boating Club on Auckland’s North Shore as a youngster, sailing Sabots and Starlings. Since then he has gone on to racing a wide range of Keelboats both locally and overseas. Lately he has been very involved with Murrays Bay Sailing Club, including being a member of the General Committee and is the Class Rep for several classes.
