The Auckland 18ft Skiff fleet has just completed an intensive weekend of training on the inner Waitemata, ahead of their trip to San Francisco. This will be the 12th running of the International 18’ event hosted by the St Francis Yacht club in late August.
The fleet spent the weekend training in their no.2 rigs as the prevailing conditions in San Fran mean the number 1 rigs almost never come out of the container and hence finding range with the smaller rig is crucial at the event.
YNZ's Northern Region Regional Support Officer Hamish Hey ran the racing for the fleet, with multiple starts and a short windward / leeward course every third or fourth start, giving the crew's the intensive shake down they were after ahead of packing the container next weekend.
The fleet will be back out on the water for a final day of training on Saturday 21st.
