Riverton is a sea side club, sitting on the side of Foveaux Strait, 1600 pop, Jacobs River divides the town.
Safe beaches bring people in the summer to double the number of residents, and fisho's chase the famous Blue Cod in our straits, also a number of commercial fisho's resident in our town, we share premises with the rowing club.
We have 6 Optimist yachts carried in a box trailer, a bit like YNZ Sailing...Have a Go! trailer but smaller, small membership of 1/2 doz local salts, we run Have a Go! with schools and host the Yachting NZ Sailing...Have a go! programme when they come to town.
We seemed to have evolved into junior promotions, no current senior yachts or crews, and haven't run a club regatta for some years. This could all change if or when there is a resurgence of interest in sailing locally bringing in new members. "slainte mhor"
